MODERN METHODS OF BRAIN STIMULATION: ACHIEVEMENTS AND PROSPECTS OF APPLICATION

Abstract

This is a review article that offers an analysis of non-pharmacological treatment possibilities in psychiatry, and speci fi cally, the up-to-date methods of brain stimulation. The author pays special attention to current principles of using ECT and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS). The author also presents the data of his own research on this subject.Besides, the article contains an analysis of publications concerning new treatment methods, such as the vagus nerve stimulation and deep brain stimulation.
